The Ukraine America Initiative UA was formed at the start of the 2022 invasion in response to a clear need. Ukrainians displaced by war required more than temporary aid. They needed stability, dignity and communities they could rely on. The UA team had already spent more than two decades working in Ukraine on economic support and community development. When the war began, they used that experience to mobilize support quickly and where it was needed most.
UA’s work focuses on practical, people focused services. We support women and children who have been displaced, students rebuilding their education in new countries, elderly who choose to remaine near front-line regions and families rebuilding after trauma. Their work includes funding daycare and educational programs in Poland and Ukraine, offering housing resources, food and assisting special needs children with disabilities.
This is a grassroots volunteer effort that leverages trusted local partners and long-standing relationships in Ukrainian communities. Their history in the country allows them to work directly with the people and organizations who are closest to the need.
By working with U4U, they are part of a shared effort that focuses on dignity, practical support and building resilient communities rather than short-term aid.
There are many ways to support. Some people volunteer time in Poland or Ukraine. Others can help by coordinating resources or donating financially. Every action supports the same goal: ensuring that people who have been displaced by war do not lose their future along with their home.
The aim is simple: to help a families and communities hold steady at a time when change, trauma and grief has taken the ground out from under them.
