A Ukrainian refugee who came to the U.S. seeking safety and a new beginning — taken too soon.
At just 23 years old, Iryna Zarutska had already survived the war in Ukraine and built a new life in Charlotte, North Carolina. She worked hard to support her mother and younger siblings, dreaming of peace, stability, and a future filled with possibility.
On August 22, 2025, Iryna’s life was tragically cut short in a senseless act of violence on the Charlotte light-rail. Her family, who fled war hoping for safety, now faces unimaginable heartbreak — and the heavy burden of funeral expenses, legal processes, and the challenge of rebuilding life once again.
Your donation will go directly to Iryna’s family, helping cover:
- Funeral and memorial costs
- Emergency living expenses for her mother and siblings
- Legal and counseling support as they navigate this tragedy
Every contribution — no matter how small — is a message of compassion and solidarity. Together, we can honor Iryna’s memory and help her family find the stability and hope she worked so hard to create.

Let’s stand with Iryna’s family, as she once stood for courage and kindness.
